Difference Between Lockdown And Curfew

Whereas in many states curfew has also been imposed. Lockdown and now curfew also cause problems for people, and there is also a lot of confusion about the facilities being open and closed.

What is Lock down

Lockdown is an emergency-like situation or an emergency arrangement imposed by the local administration, in which the necessary services are not stopped but private establishments and public transport and traffic arrangements are stopped. The lockdown appeals to the people to remain locked in their houses, and they are allowed to exit only for essential things. However, it is a temporary system adopted by the government under Disaster Management Act.

Essential features continue during lockdown. It depends on the administration which services it wants to continue. In the lockdown, the local administration closes private institutions and orders work from home. The purpose of the lockdown is that people stay in their homes so that no kind of infection spreads.

Lockdown has been done in many states and cities of the country, but shops are open for essential goods like bank, dairy, medicine, ration, fruits and vegetables.

 

What is curfew

curfew is a strict order invoking Section 144 of the CRPC. Curfew is usually imposed in a very serious condition. People are not allowed to go out of their homes during the curfew. Schools, colleges, markets are all closed during the curfew. The exemption in curfew is given for a very short time, only for those services which are very important during curfew. Under the curfew, people are instructed not to leave the streets outside their homes.

With this, the person who violates the curfew can be arrested and a fine can also be imposed. During the curfew, there is a lock on services like market and bank. When curfew is relaxed only then people locked in the houses can come out and then they can take advantage of these services. It is applied in a particular area for a few days or hours.

Typically, curfew; Implemented due to communal riots, terrorist incident or any formidable disaster. Its basic objective is to maintain peace and order in the country and the state.

 

Difference between Lockdown and Curfew

The effect and purpose of these two methods are almost identical but there is a difference between lockdown and curfew.

  • All the essential services and markets are closed for a period in the curfew but in lockdown the essential services and essential markets / shops are not closed and are open as per the need of the public.
  • During the curfew, essential services like markets, schools, colleges and banks remain closed, when the curfew is relaxed, people get the benefit of all these services. While in lockdown, essential services like bank, ATM, gas agency, post office, fire office, hospital, medical store, milk booth etc. are open to the general public but schools, colleges and general markets etc. remain closed.
  • Curfew has been imposed several times in some parts of the country, but the lockdown has been imposed for the first time only during the corona. Along with this, curfew is imposed in the country in the atmosphere of any communal riots, terrorist incident etc. But the lockdown is imposed in a special situation such as now the lockdown has been declared in the country due to COVID-19.
  • The curfew is imposed for a certain number of hours in a particular area, but the lockdown is usually carried out for a much longer period. It can be a month or even more.
  • Curfew is usually imposed for a few hours in a district or tehsil. The lockdown area can be large.
